Hazardous Materials Collection Center
Products are considered hazardous when they contain one or more of the following characteristics: toxic, corrosive, reactive, combustible. The HHM accepts materials at no charge from Iowa County residents. These items are accepted from 8-2pm, Monday thru Friday.
Acceptable items: Hazardous products from your kitchen, bathroom, garage and workshop. Lawn and garden chemicals, photo developers, pool chemicals, pesticides, fertilizer, oil based paint, oil filters, antifreeze, propane cylinders, empty fire extinguishers, asbestos (by appointment).
Items NOT ACCEPTED: Ammunition/explosives, radioactive materials, medical waste, sharps and used motor oil. Latex paint is accepted; small amounts can be dried out and put in your regular trash.
GIVE AWAY UNUSED PAINT TO GROUPS THAT CAN USE IT. CHECK WITH YOUR LOCAL SCHOOL, CHURCH, THEATER GROUPS, Re-STORE, HABITAT FOR HUMANITY AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS.
Please use provided curbside or drop-off recycling programs for your corrugated cardboard, newspapers, magazines, junk mail, steel/aluminum cans and plastic containers. Contact the following locations for their recycling rules and requirements. Drop-off locations are:
